On October 19th<\/sup>, 2020, an application for a General Declaration for the Protection as Geographical Indication of \u00abALEBRIJES, TONAS, NAHUALES AND WOOD CARVINGS FROM THE CENTRAL VALLEYS OF OAXACA\u00bb was published in the Federal Official Gazette.<\/p>\n

On October 19th<\/sup>, 2020, was published in the Federal Official Gazette an application for a General Declaration for the Protection as Geographical Indication of \u00abALEBRIJES, TONAS, NAHUALES AND WOOD CARVINGS FROM THE CENTRAL VALLEYS OF OAXACA\u00bb<\/p>\n

Alebrijes are Mexican handicrafts carved in wood representing real or imaginary animals, resulting in fantastic figures that are distinguished by their combination of bright and vibrant colors.<\/p>\n

The application was filed by the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the State of Oaxaca, Mexico.<\/p>\n

The products that are intended to be protected with the Geographical Indication are handicrafts consisting of different kinds of carved wooden figures and painted with an enormous variety of colors and motifs.<\/p>\n

The localities that make wood carvings or alebrijes within the region of Los Valles Centrales: San Antonio Arrazola, San Mart\u00edn Tilcajete, Uni\u00f3n Tejal\u00e1pam, San Pedro Taviche and Oaxaca de Ju\u00e1rez.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the law, any interested third party may oppose the Application for a General Declaration for the Protection of the Geographical Indication for \u00abALBRIJES, TONAS, NAHUALES AND WOODEN CARVINGS IN THE CENTRAL VALLEYS OF OAXACA\u00bb, with a deadline of December 19, 2020.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n
