{"id":19675,"date":"2019-01-17T17:44:30","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T23:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.basham.com.mx\/Blog\/?p=1745"},"modified":"2019-01-17T17:44:30","modified_gmt":"2019-01-17T23:44:30","slug":"announcement-of-trunk-network-public-tender-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basham.com.mx\/en\/announcement-of-trunk-network-public-tender-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"ANNOUNCEMENT OF TRUNK NETWORK PUBLIC TENDER SUSPENSION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANNOUNCEMENT\nOF TRUNK NETWORK PUBLIC TENDER SUSPENSION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Andr\u00e9s Manuel\nL\u00f3pez-Obrador announced, in his morning press conference today, his decision to\nsuspend the fiber optic Trunk Network public tender proceeding, the second most\nimportant telecommunication project of the former administration and expected\nto be put out to tender in February 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u00f3pez-Obrador explained that\nthe bidding rules for the tender are to be amended to launch a new tender\nprocess to award a bit more than 25,306 kilometers of fiber optic for the\nFederal Electricity Commission. It is foreseen that this will be the backbone\nof a data transportation network to provide broadband services. Lopez-Obrador\nstated that the new bidding rules will be ready by mid-February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose will be to\nconnect the entire country. He explained that the telecommunications reform has\nnot solved the connectivity problem, since currently only 25% of Mexico has\nconnectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As consideration for the\ntender, the company or companies awarded the concession will have to provide\nfree Internet service on highways and in public squares, schools, and hospitals\nand assign resources to maintain the facilities.
