Mexico City, June 24, 2022.
On June 22, 2022, the Federal Antitrust Commission ("COFECE") announced the initiation of a study on free competition and antitrust matters in the Mexican digital financial services markets and related marketsThis report will analyze its structure, operation and regulatory framework.
Regarding this study, COFECE pointed out that the financial sector is relevant because it generates a very important percentage of Mexico's Gross Domestic Product, while digital financial services can have an impact on financial inclusion and facilitate access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Individuals, institutions and economic agents interested in the subject may make comments and provide elements they consider relevant for the analysis of the market, from a competition perspective.
The study represents an opportunity for companies in the industry to contribute ideas that can influence the development of regulation and potential additional actions by COFECE.
At the conclusion of the study, COFECE may submit proposals and recommendations to the competent authorities in order to promote greater competition and free competition for the benefit of the users of such services. The final document of the study will not constitute a prejudgment on possible violations to the Federal Antitrust Law.
