Domain Names, Licensing and Litigation

Domain names

Basham, Ringe y Correa has a department that focuses on the registration of generic top-level domain names (gTLDs), country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) and second and third level domains. In addition, our lawyers have extensive experience in the negotiation of domain name transfers and proceedings before domain name dispute resolution bodies, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

For the correct protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights, it is necessary to implement an adequate licensing system for these rights (subsidiary companies, franchises, compulsory licenses for public utility reasons, etc.).

Because Basham, Ringe y Correa is a general practice firm, we are able to provide our clients with comprehensive consulting services, covering the different areas of law and not only intellectual property.

The litigation area of Basham, Ringe y Correa is formed by more than 15 lawyers specialized in the field who focus their knowledge and study on the protection of our clients’ intellectual property rights. We develop strategies to ensure effective protection of our clients’ intellectual property rights; we design measures to prevent piracy and unfair competition practices; we handle administrative, civil and criminal litigation before the different authorities in our country.

Some of the services provided in the area are as follows:

  • Administrative litigation proceedings in intellectual property matters, including industrial property and copyrights, before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, as well as administrative litigation proceedings before the Regional Intellectual Property Chamber of the Federal Court of Tax and Administrative Justice (Tribunal Federal de Justicia Fiscal y Administrativa).
  • Preparation, processing and follow-up of criminal lawsuits, aimed at safeguarding our clients’ copyrights and industrial property rights.
  • Lawsuits for the claim of damages derived from violations of intellectual property rights.
  • Direct and indirect Amparo proceedings before judicial authorities.
  • Infringements in the area of commerce.
