Basham advised Grupo Carso in obtaining COFECE concentration clearance to acquire the entire share capital of PetroBal Operaciones, a subsidiary of Grupo Bal.

Mexico City, April 27, 2024. The Federal Economic Competition Commission («COFECE») unconditionally authorized the acquisition by one of Grupo Carso’s subsidiaries of all the shares of PetroBal Operaciones Upstream, S.A. de C.V., and its subsidiaries, through which Grupo Bal currently holds a 50% stake in the exploitation of the Ichalkil and Pokoch oil fields, located off the coast of Campeche (Contract Area 4).

In obtaining the COFECE clearance, Grupo Carso was advised by Amílcar Peredo (Partner) and León Jiménez (Senior Associate) of the antitrust team of Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C. in Mexico City.

According to data from the National Hydrocarbons Commission, Ichalkil and Pokoch together produce about 12,000 barrels of oil per day. The deal is worth approximately $530 million.

With this acquisition, Grupo Carso consolidates its participation in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Mexico.
