February 11, 2026

As of February 5, 2026, a mechanism has been implemented to facilitate entry into Mexico by air for Brazilian citizens who wish to carry out short-term, non-remunerated tourism or business activities. They may now obtain an electronic visa through the Electronic Authorization System (SAE), also known as the e-Visa, without the need for a consular appointment or a physical visa stamp in their passport.
The reactivation of the Electronic Authorization System (SAE) renders void the scheme implemented in 2022, which required Brazilian nationals to obtain a visa stamp in their passport prior to traveling.
The e-Visa application is submitted online and requires uploading the following documents to the system:
• Image of a valid passport
• Travel itinerary
• Airline ticket showing departure from Mexico
In most cases, authorization is issued within a short timeframe, usually in less than 30 minutes.
Once the e-Visa has been issued, and prior to boarding the flight to Mexico, airlines will verify approval of the electronic authorization through the QR code embedded in the e-Visa in order to allow the holder to board the flight.
Physical visas issued to Brazilian nationals before February 5, 2026, will remain valid until the expiration date indicated on the document.
It is important to note that the e-Visa applies only to short stays (less than 180 days) and does not replace other types of visas. If the electronic authorization is denied, or if a multiple-entry visa is required, the corresponding application must be processed at a Mexican Consulate.
In particular, Brazilian nationals must apply for a consular visa in the following cases:
• Multiple-entry visitor visa, valid for 180 days and up to 10 years
• Student visa
• Temporary or permanent resident visa
Although the reinstatement of the SAE facilitates entry into Mexico for certain trips, final admission into the country remains subject to review by immigration authorities upon arrival.
This update is relevant for both individual travelers and companies managing international mobility, and it is recommended to verify the appropriate immigration status before initiating any travel.
Basham, Ringe y Correa will continue to monitor developments in immigration matters and their practical impact for our clients.
