On April 30th, the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) approved the acquisition of an additional 30.10% of the share capital of Talos Energy México 7, S. de R.L de C.V (“Talos Energy”), by Zamajal, S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Grupo Carso. With this transaction, Grupo Carso will hold a majority stake in Talos Energy.
Grupo Carso is a Mexican business conglomerate with presence in sectors such as commerce, industry, infrastructure, energy, and construction. It is one of the largest and most influential groups in Latin America .
Talos Energy is a leading independent offshore energy company in the United States, focused on exploration and production. With a strong technical foundation, it leverages advanced technology to enhance geological understanding and engineering processes.
This transaction is especially relevant as it strengthens Grupo Carso´s participation in one of Mexico´s most important energy projects, the Zama Field, considered one of the largest oil discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico. It´s production is estimated to reach up to 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
