  • Through the company experience, Basham participated in the construction of a regulatory guide for the use of drones applied in environmental projects

Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C (Basham) received the 2024 TrustLaw Award in the Powered By Pro Bono category, due to the firm collaboration in the construction of a global regulatory guide on the use of drones for One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on environmental care.

The association aims to contribute to the care of the planet by planting trees, with the support of drones to supervise their projects in difficult places to access. However, drones’ registration rules may differ around the world, so there is a possibility of unintentionally violating laws governing drones without proper legal advice.

Basham worked with 5 law firms, specialists in researching laws and regulations governing the use of drones in 11 locations in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, to provide the organization with legal advice to continue their activities without legal obstacles.

“We are honored to have received this award. It reinforces our commitment to social responsibility, which we have maintained for more than a century of operations. We have collaborated with different non-profit organizations to strengthen their activities and provide them with a solid legal structure. The practices and activities that consider corporate social responsibility are an essential part of our values as a legal firm, to promote the creation of opportunities,” mentioned Diana Rangel.

Thanks to the legal guide, One Tree Planted will be able to continue utilizing cutting-edge technology, such as drones, to measure the results of its projects. This will ensure the desired impact: improving tree survival rates, providing drinking water to millions of people, revitalizing biodiversity, and creating essential job opportunities in reforested areas.

The award has significantly bolstered our efforts, filling us with hope and optimism for the future of our social responsibility initiatives.

The project’s development included Diana Rangel’s participation as counsel for the firm’s Constitutional and Administrative Practice.
