USMCA: New Regulation of Intellectual Property in Mexico.

Mexico City, July 1st, 2020.

 

On June 29th and 30th, 2020, the Mexican Congress approved the new Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property, which repeals the current Industrial Property Law. Amendments to various provisions of the Federal Copyright Law were also approved to conform to the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement named United States, Mexico and Canada Agreement (USMCA), which will take effect on July 1.st, 2020.

 

Both Decrees will be sent to the President of the Mexican Republic for their promulgation in constitutional terms.

 

Once these new regulations have been published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, the Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property will enter into force within 90 working days, and the amendments and additions to the Federal Copyright Law will come into force on the next day.
