The House of Representatives through the Committee on Immigration Issues, approved the amendment of Article 52, section III of the Immigration Act.
The amendment intends to enhance the period of legal stay from 3 days (which was granted previously), to 7 days, for those foreign nationals holders of a Regional Visitor Card (TVR, for its acronym in Spanish).
The Regional Visitor Card provides fast and effective travel to foreign nationals from Guatemala an Belize, our bordering neighbors, to legally enter and transit the southern Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo, for a short period of time (no longer than 7 calendar days).
Moreover, the present amendment aims to create a more secure south border, as well as a better entry-exit system to facilitate the oversight of people in Mexican territory, likewise, to produce an economic growth in the hotel, tourism and leisure sectors; commercial establishments, commercial fairs, among other sectors, derived from the length of stay and economic impact that visit of foreign individuals will create for the south- southeast border of Mexico.
